Getting to the last few pills in a birth control pack can give you a pretty panicky feeling. But a new company is making it way easier to get your refills.
Nurx recently launched an app that will deliver birth control to your door within 24 hours. They've got pills, patches, and rings. It's free for those who have insurance, and if you aren't insured, fees start at just $15. You have to fill out information about your health and insurance, then a doctor reviews it and follows up with any questions before sending the info on to a partner pharmacy. After that, they offer automatic refills.
For now, the service is only available in California, which is where the company is based. They told MTV News they plan to expand to New York; Washington, D.C.; Illinois; and Washington state soon, and hope to eventually be available nation-wide.
"Access to birth control is still a major issue," founders Hans Gangeskar and Dr. Edvard Engesaeth told MTV News. "Oftentimes, women have to take off work, visit the doctor, then visit the pharmacy as well. Nurx helps solve that problem and make it more convenient for women to get their birth control, and with Nurx, we provide a three month supply of birth control instead of the usual one-month supply that's often provided."
Nurx isn't the first to try virtual birth control. Planned Parenthood offers video appointments in Alaska, Idaho, Minnesota, and Washington state, which allow for women to get birth control mailed to them after talking to their doctors virtually.
But an app takes things to a whole new, easy level. When it comes to our health, it's awesome to have as many options as possible.
